Abstract:

The linguistic analysis of two Church Slavonic translations of the same text, which appeared independently, but quite close in time and place of origin, provides the researcherwith valuable material for studying both translation technique and particular grammatical phenomena at the morphological and syntactic levels. In addition, the fact thatthe translation of this text from another language already existed in the Church Slavonic tradition, can complicate the correct understanding of some features, since in this case, besides the direct dependence of the translation on the original, cases of interfe rence with the previous tradition are also possible. Therefore, both vertical and horizontal factors show a rather complex and variegated picture of the emergence and development of Church Slavonic texts, whose grammatical interpretation requires a versatile philological approach considering the relative fl uid nature of Church Slavonic morphosyntax. This article off ers a comparative study of the fi rst biblical song of Moses in two translations from Latin, dating back to the end of the 15th — the fi rst half of the 16th century.
