ON COMPILING NIKITA KHRUSHCHEV’S PAREMIOLOGICAL DICTIONARY

The main events of the foreign policy of the post-Stalin period characterized by a softe ning of the position of the Soviet Union in relation to many foreign countries, the meetings of the heads of the states with diff erent political systems, as well as the most vivid and controversial personality of the “thaw” leader N. S. Khrushchev, can be considered the main starting points of the enormous interest that the public and the press showed to him. This could not help but be refl ected in the Soviet and foreign press. At present, of particular interest are the statesman’s public speeches, press conferences, interviews and, defi nitely, his memoirs. The article presents the experience of compiling the political l eader’s paremiological dictionary. The material of the dictionary covers the traditional and transformed proverbs and sayings employed by Khrushchev in his public speeches and reminiscences. The author gives a thorough treatment of the lexicographical description of the paremias utilized in the politician’s speech practice. The principles of the construction of dictionary entries are considered. Paremias are included in the general phraseological fund of the linguistic personality. The author introduces their meanings and illustrates their contextual use which allows the reader to see the features of the political figure’s language and to get a better understanding of the material under discussion.
