Abstract:

The paper deals with theoretical problems of linguistic geography. The author uses the vast material of “Slavic Linguistic Atlas” and speaks about its high interpretative possibilities in terms of mapped lexicon analysis. The paper gives the Slavic dialect description of the 1st volume of the Atlas “Animal World” taking into account topographic and linguistic criteria which are used to interpret linguistic maps and are aimed to find chrono-topo-isoglosses. The lexical isoglosses are interpreted in genetic, areal and typological aspects. The author tells what kind of new linguistic information the Atlas maps give to existing conception of the Slavic dialect landscape diff erentiation.
