Abstract:

The purpose of this paper is to study strict tonic verse (STV) of one of the brightest modern poets – Alexey Parshchikov. STV is a non-syllabic-tonic meter discovered using the Interval Model of Metrics. It follows closely the taktovik in its looseness. Three most signifi cant poems and a number of lesser poems written by Parshchikov over his lifetime were selected for analysis. Analysis of Parshchikov’s tonic verse has shown that most part of it is written in STV. Parshchikov’s strict tonic verse is based on the rhythm of tri-syllabic verse. Tonic verse appears as a kind of abnormality of this base rhythm, an addition or sometimes reduction of syllabic-tonic interict interval. Rare and marginal forms and free verse were parsed as well as STV: it has been shown that there is a difference between all of them. Based on our analysis we can say that the most signifi cant property of vers libre is the absence of rhythmic correlations between the lines, i.e. the vertical component of meter. It’s not necessary to cut the vers libre line into metric or interict intervals because in free verse there is no smaller unit than the line. The tonic verse of Parshchikov became a subject of metric parsing for the fi rst time. Its structure and features ascertained in this paper are interesting from the point of view of Russian tonic classifi cation, as well as by themselves, as a study of creativity of one of the most prominent poets of the end of the last century and the beginning of the current age.
