THE CONCEPT OF IDIOSTYLE IN INTERCULTURAL STUDIES OF POETRY

Abstract:

The concept of idiostyle still seems to be appropriate and useful, however over the time that has elapsed until the thirties of the third millennium, many problems have accumulated that make it necessary to expand it or look at it in a new way. The article argues the possibility of accommodating the concept of idiostyle in the cultural system of the 21st century. The use of the term “subject” expands the usual boundaries of considering idiostyle, including in it, for example, such a characteristic that was almost unnoticed before, but relevant for modern culture, as the self-presentation of the author. The concept expands to include ways of formatting texts, the process of working on them and archiving them. It is important to raise the question of whether the concept of idiostyle works if the text recognition or branding of a technique is not included in the author’s linguistic strategy. Using the example of Velimir Khlebnikov and Fernando Pessoa, it is shown that the term idiostyle is also relevant for comparing poets writing in diff erent languages. The coincidence of the subjects of various authors dictates the need to look for at fi rst glance invisible coincidences in the language or in relation to the language, manifested in both artistic and non-artistic texts.
