Abstract:

The authors analyze the lexical material of modern Western Central Russian dialects collected in the expeditions of 2018–2019. (Vyshnevolotsky district, Tver region). Russian Dialectological Atlas maps and Lexical Atlas of Russian dialects are used to provide a linguistic and geographical interpretation of the studied idioms. According to the authors, lexical differences are important elements in the classification of dialects and serve as diagnostic characteristics. As follows from the proposed material, the Vyshnevolotsk dialects, despite their geographical location in the center of the European part of Russia, are in good preservation at all language levels. Most of the observed phenomena characterize the north-western dialect zone. The border of their distribution largely coincides with the border of the Novgorod feudal republic of the middle of the XIV century, which included the Vyshnevolotsk and Torzhok lands, unlike other Tver ones.
