Abstract:

The ill wishes in the Middle Ob dialects according to the data of the Tomsk dialect corpus and the archive of records of spontaneous speech of the Siberian old-time village residents are examined in the article. The composition of the nominations of subjects and objects in the formulas of ill wishes and their initial motives, which expressed the intention of the speaker, are analyzed in the article. The functional features of ill wishes in the modern conditions of their existence are considered: a high variability of the sound shell, the transformation of stable phrases of a once sacred nature into linguistic means of expressing negative emotions, varying in degree of reduction. Sources testify to the persistence of the practice of using curses in conflict situations between villagers and at the same time point to a process of gradual loss of faith due to such optative expressions. Ill wishes in the speech of dialect carriers demonstrate many close features identified in the Slavic and Russian regional material (the structure of formulas, a number of nominations of subjects, the main motives, the change in the functions of these cliches these days). Some differences between the Middle Ob dialects of secondary formation in comparison with the maternal ones are observed in the composition of the formulas of ill wishes and their archaic components as well as the significant influence of urban vernacular on the dialect subsystem.
