CODE-SWITCHING IN THE SPEECH OF A NANAI SPEAKER

The paper deals with the code-switching in Russian and Nanai speech of a Nanai person. The research comprises the description of cases of code-switching, their classification and analysis of the parameters which potentially cause these phenomena. The study is based on a small collection of oral texts in Russian and in Nanai. The analyzed speech contains the following types of code-switching: insertion of two and more lexical words, insertion of discourse words, insertion of lexical words next to the corresponding word in the primary language of a text, insertion of lexical words without corresponding words in the primary language of a text, nonce borrowings. The frequency of code-switching in the investigated speech correlates with such parameters as the primary language of a text (it occurs more often in Nanai texts than in Russian texts), the genre of a text (it occurs more often in autobiographic tales than in fairy tales), a discursive mode of a sentence (in fairy tales, it prefers non-narrative mode). Besides, discourse words insert into a speech much more often than other elements. We also analyzed some other parameters which turned out to be not so important for code-switching. They include a time distance from the beginning of a text and a lexeme type — the existence of a corresponding lexeme in the primary language of a text.
