Abstract:

The article describes the basic word-building patterns for creating neologisms in G. Ivanov’s texts, and their aesthetic function is defined. The author believes that the peculiarity of Ivanov’s neologisms is determined not by breaking the rules of word-formation, but rather by the unusual lexical-semantic scope of regular word-building patterns. Most of G. Ivanov’s neologisms are potential words being created in accordance with linguistic word-building models. The main way of creating a new word for G. Ivanov is composition in several of its varieties. It is a composite word that allows him to condense the poetic sense. Эстетическая функция неологизмов в поэзии Георгия Иванова 147 The number of productive models for the formation of new words in G. Ivanov’s poetry is small, but it increases from the early to the late period of his creative work. In his early works the neologism is a tribute to the poetic trend of the Silver Age. Basically, they are complex color adjectives. In the emigre poetry neo-lexemes are closely related to the main categories of the poet’s worldview and features of his idiostyle. Once the model is found it is used by the poet repeatedly, taking on the idiostyle word-formative meaning, e. g. the meaning of the borderline for nouns formed with the help of the prefixoid polu- and the meaning of imaginary antinomy in complex nouns, formed without a connecting vowel.
