A Remark on the Word-initial Consonant in Slavic *gnězdo

The article considers a possibility of linking together the seemingly disparate wordinitial aberrations in Slavic and Baltic words for ‘nest’, Proto-Slavic *gnězdo and Lithuanian lizdas, Latvian li(g)zds, li(g)zda respectively. The tentative explanation is based on a probable change *gn…n > *gl…n, corroborated to some extent by attested lexical evidence.
