Abstract:

In Russian varieties, in whose vocal systems there are two o-phonemes distributed in accordance with the «Russian» principle of distribution: in case of csl. *o, the phonemes /o/ and /ô/ have arisen dependantly of csl. tonal accents, — the vocalization of roots in the gen. pl. wordforms shows the deviation from the main principle of distribution. The deviations must be due to the analogy and take place in the period when the accentual opposition of singular and plural forms has formed. Three main types of deviations are attested in Russian varieties. The boardeds of their dialectal areas coincide with the protecting fortification lines of XIV–XVII cc. on the territory of South Russian dialects.
