Abstract:
The article analyzes the Russian dialectal words and word combinations associating madness with human mind, or sense, in the lexical semantic field of madness. We single out semantic transitions by which the above mentioned meanings develop, as well as some fixed derivational patterns and synonymic etymological nests. We point out the examples of etymological meaning preservation of words and their roots, lost in the Russian literary language, and the cases of model juncture, remotivation, and semantic morphemes neutralization. We compare the motivational structures of two dialectal lexeme groups associating madness with human mind, or sense, and connecting the loss of mind with personal qualities in general. The unique models are indicated in both lexeme groups.
