Abstract:

The memoirs tell us about the life and work of the philologist Vadim Baevsky (1929–2013), professor of the Smolensk Pedagogical Institute (later the Smolensk State Pedagogical University). The narrative of the author of the memoirs — one of the students of Professor Baevsky — contains several topics.

— Poetry seminar for students. The professor loved his poetry seminar. At each meeting, one of the students made a small scientific report — for 20–30 minutes, then the discussion began...

— Teaching gift. The professor was a born Teacher. He read free public lectures on Russian literature in schools, factory clubs in different small towns. He organized poetry event for Smolensk lovers of poetry in the city library... I’ll tell you about the poetry event devoted to Fedor Ivanovich Tyutchev.

— Friends. With special warmth the professor treated his colleagues-scientists...Many of them came to visit him in Smolensk: Mikhail Gasparov, Petr Rudnev, Vyacheslav Sapogov.
