Abstract:

The subject of this study is to meteorological terminology of the Belarussian dialects of Grodno and the area around Grodno. The book consists of two independent sections. The first part of the work concerns the lexis of Polish provenance, the polish adaptation rules borrowing. In the second part the author discusses in details the meteorological vocabulary of Grodno and the areas of Grodno. The rich lexical material of meteorological terminology is presented in a few specific lexical-semantic groups and subgroups (weather, rain, drizzle etc.). The author quotes where possible slavic words, gives etymological comment, pays particular attention to the semantic changes. The author tries to outline the Common Slavonic, etymological and ethnolinguistic background. The glossary of meteorological terminology associated with the designation of natural phenomena introduces us to the world of reality and popular culture. Through terminology disclosed folk ideas about features climate, weather penomena characteristic for north-east region of Belarus.
